I think there are many things that contribute to a quality art lesson plan. Three aspects that I think a quality visual arts lesson plan needs are integration of other subjects, psychomotor and multisensory activities, and aesthetics.
If other subjects are integrated into art then students will be able to get a great education because involving other subjects in art can help many different types of learners. It is very important to me as a teacher to always reach my diverse learners and I believe if I integrate across the curriculum especially with art I will be able to do this. Art can make every subject very interesting for students who are just used to the same old thing every day. By integrating subjects it can teach students life lessons by showing them that they will have to deal with wide ranges of content area throughout their lives.
Some students learn better through movement and there are many ways to get students moving through art. Dance is one thing but there are also many other activities that can be used to help students’ psychomotor skills. I believe that psychomotor and multisensory activities will help my student remember art concepts and will help contribute to making a quality visual arts lesson plan.
I think aesthetics contributes to making a quality art lesson plan because students need to build their own ideas and opinions about art. I also believe it is important for students to be able to listen and accept their classmates’ opinions about art. If we discuss art in the classroom this will help students listen and learn from one another and this will also help them when they find themselves in different situations in life. It will be great for my students to hear what other people think and it will show them that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I found great ideas from my three sources and they also helped me build a better foundation on what I believe makes a great quality visual arts lesson plan.
